For GNU/Linux, Windows, and MacOS X, Inkscape is a free and open source vector graphics editor. It has a lot of functionality and is popular for cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming, and flowcharting, among other things. It employs vector graphics, which allow for sharp printouts and renderings at any resolution, as opposed to raster graphics, which are confined to a fixed number of pixels. Inkscape's main file format is the standardized SVG file format, which is supported by a wide range of other applications, including web browsers.

SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, PS, and PNG are among the file formats it can import and export. It offers a large feature set, a simple interface, multilingual support, and is expandable; users can build add-ons to tweak Inkscape's functionality.
