QBlade v0.96.3 is now available.

A hotfix for an issue that caused crashes during polar extrapolation is included in version 0.96.3!

Guidelines v0.95: https://goo.gl/htvb34 will be updated soon; in the meantime, utilize the Guidelines v0.95 document.

QBlade is a design and simulation software for vertical- and horizontal-axis wind turbines that uses the Blade Element Momentum Method (BEM), Double Multiple Streamtube (DMS), and nonlinear Lifting Line Theory (LLT). It also features tools for setting up and simulating the internal blade structure of a wind turbine rotor, as well as performing an aeroelastic study of a wind turbine rotor in turbulent inflow circumstances, thanks to a collaboration with NREL's FAST.

Features

  • XFOIL viscous/inviscid analysis is used to design and simulate airfoils.
  • 360° AoA extrapolation of XFOIL generated or imported polar data
  • Design and optimization of horizontal and vertical axis rotor blades for wind turbines
  • Projects, rotors, turbines, and simulations are all stored in a runtime database.
  • Calculation of rotor and turbine performance over a wide variety of tip speed ratios and wind speeds
  • The computation of modal analysis and the definition of a blade structural model
  • Turbulent windfield generator
  • Simulations of unsteady lifting lines for VAWT and HAWT
  • ParaView compatibility with unsteady aerodynamics and dynamic stalls
  • Airfoil self-noise evaluation (PNoise)
  • NREL's FAST structural simulator is fully integrated.
